My all-time favorite hunt was the shoot outside of Kirkman when Carita spotted the big buck. I like style sights over three dot for target work on my Marlin 45-70 and .300 Savage rifles. One drawback with most .300 Savage calibers is that you can’t buy factory ammunition.
My most favorite rifle is the Marlin 1894 I got at Wiley Outdoor Sports in Kirkman. There is a new edition of my new Marlin 1894 with the fiddleback maple chambered in 45-70 and .300 Savage. Our favorite rifle is the .300 Savage I picked up online at the NRA store.

The best shooting caliber for groundhogs out to 300-400 yards is anything in a 7 mm Magnum. My friends and I like the 300 Win Mag best for deer hunting. One drawback with this shooter is the Weatherby price, weighing in at $395, but for that you do get a hand crafted piece of artwork with the hard rock maple stock.

For deer hunting I like Dakota lever actions, but I do have more 7 Weatherby Magnum bolts than levers. My mom’s favorite rifle is my new Dakota Model 76 Traveler with the composite chambered in 7.62 mm and 7 Weatherby Magnum. My second favorite caliber here in Alaska for the all game is the 7 Weatherby Magnum.
